Welcome to “Global India Investigator”–the monthly international publication with a focus of inter-linking Indian Diasporas across the globe.
We have started this magazine with a pledge to make it a strong and undisputed voice for protecting the rights of Indians living in different countries of the world.
In this high-end academic monthly magazine we will focus on fundamental political, social, economic, cultural and administrative issues.
People of the Indian origin began to migrate overseas in significant numbers only in the 19th century. Compulsions generated by colonialism Indians spread initially to the countries of Africa, Southeast Asia, Fiji and Caribbean. The pattern of the migration was uniquely diverse that has not been replicated by any other Diaspora, except perhaps the Chinese. What was mainly in response to the enormous demand of cheap labour in 19th century has turned into a steady outflow of India’s best professionals to the developed countries of the West and skilled and semi-skilled workers to West Asia and Gulf in the second half of the 20th century.
Today the Indian Diaspora numbers over 20 million, reflecting the full multiplicity and variety of the rich social, ethnic, religious and cultural tapestry of the land of its origin. People of Indian origin are contributing in all spheres of life across the world. They have their joys, their sorrows, their ambitions and their miseries. They need adequate justice and opportunities at the places they live. They also need to get proper intellectual feed back to get their perceptions updated about the happenings in their motherland. Therefore, we will try to make this publication a platform that tirelessly work for the principal interests of the Indian Diaspora in different countries of the world. Our eminent writers will keep on giving our readers the analysis of core issues based on investigations to keep India’s national interests intact in a globalised world.
We have carefully chosen Hong Kong as the place of publication for “Global India Investigator (GII)”. India’s relations with Hong Kong are historical and date back to more than 150 years. India and Hong Kong have been trading with each other since the middle of the 19th century; relations between the two people have been warm and cordial; and, Hong Kong has for long been home to a large Indian community, which has actively contributed to Hong Kong’s emergence as a hub of global finance and trade. Members of the Indian community helped establish well known institutions in Hong Kong, like the Hong Kong University, the Ruttonji Hospital and the Star Ferry. The Indian community in Hong Kong is estimated to be more than 45,000. Let it be trading partnership, largest market for domestic exports and re-exports or source of imports India is among Hong Kong’s top ten allies.
Hong Kong is preferable for us as a distribution hub for the magazine because our research says that it would be easy from here for ‘GII’ to reach USA, Canada, Arab world, Gulf, Europe, Africa and Australia where Indian Diaspora has a very strong presence as well as to reach countries like Fiji, Mauritius, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Myanmar and Nepal which are more like extended India. From Hong Kong ‘GII’ could even travel to Costa Rica, Azerbaijan, Honduras, Ecuador, Peru and Vanuatu where the presence of Indians can be counted on fingers.
We have miles to go and start this long journey with the support of each one of you in whose best wishes lies our real strength.
